Viola was born out of the passion and ambition of James R. Brathwaite (1939-2007). By the time he began to formulate the idea of what could be, he had already transition from a tailor’s apprentice to a police constable to a police prosecutor and finally to a successful lawyer. However, his entrepreneurial spirit kept pulling him to further undertakings. ” Joan, we need to start a hotel in Tobago!”

And in 1993, this ambition was realized in brick and mortar, and Viola’s Place Apartment Hotel Limited open its doors for business with only 10 rooms, with James and Joan Brathwaite as its soul employees and with the innocence of a dream realized.
